Portland, Ore. –August 16, 2018– On July 31, 2018 Hampton Vineyards, a subsidiary of Hampton Lumber finalized purchase of the Fennwood Vineyard, one of Yamhill-Carlton’s premier vineyards.

The Fennwood Vineyard was formerly owned by Birch Creek Associates, which owns other Oregon vineyards and is also affiliated with Dusky Goose Winery. “We were not actively seeking to sell the vineyard,” said John Carter, owner of Birch Creek Associates. “But when we found a local Oregon family-owned buyer who wanted to continue the farming practices we had employed, as well as expand the planted acreage, we decided to do so.”

Hampton Lumber has managed timberland and produced lumber locally for over 75 years.  In 2016, Hampton planted its first vineyard outside of Monmouth, Oregon.  Now known as the Tall Tree Vineyard, this property will produce its first crop of Pinot noir and Chardonnay grapes later this year, which will be sold to three local wineries. While there are no plans to change any of the vineyard practices or marketing in the short-term, Hampton intends to plant an additional 20 acres of red and white varietals on both the Tall Tree and Fennwood properties over the next few years. Together, the Tall Tree and Fennwood Vineyards will eventually comprise 132 planted acres. Under Hampton ownership, the Fennwood Vineyard will continue to supply grapes to its current winery customers, including Dusky Goose. Daily operations on both properties will be handled by Results Partners, a local vineyard management company.

The focus of Hampton’s business operations will remain forestland and lumber, however, the Hampton family is excited about the company’s expansion into the wine business.  “The idea of growing a local product that doesn’t take a full 40-60 years to market, like trees do, is certainly appealing,” said co-owner David Hampton.

Parties interested in purchasing grapes from future harvests should contact Luke Pedotti or Evan Bellingar at Results Partners at 503-883-4060.
