October 12, 2021 – Hampton Lumber is pleased to announce it has been selected to receive the 2021 Lowe’s Sustainability Award. The award recognize Hampton Lumber as “a leader in wood sourcing and forest management policies, provides environmentally conscious products while enhancing local communities and lessening its environmental impact.”
All wood products supplied by Hampton Lumber are responsibly sourced and certified by third parties. Hampton’s forestlands are certified under the Sustainable Forestry Initiative (SFI), a certification program that sets high standards to protect water quality, biodiversity, and forest health. SFI-certified landowners conserve wildlife and water, practice climate-smart forestry, and support relationship building with community partners and Indigenous Peoples.
In announcing the award, Lowe’s also recognized Hampton Lumber’s sustainability initiatives, including the company’s pollinator habitat enhancement projects, zero waste lumber processing, and investments in energy efficiency projects at our manufacturing facilities.
Hampton sawmills use nearly 100 percent of every log in the manufacturing process. What doesn’t become lumber is used for biofuel, pulp and paper, particle board, landscaping, and agricultural products. At Hampton’s mill in Darrington, WA, a cogeneration system burns mill residual wood waste (biomass) to produce steam for drying lumber. This steam is also converted to electricity by a turbine and generator and sold to the local utility as renewable energy.
